Worcester Insane Asylum

Posted by
Chris (Massachusetts, United States) on 31 October 2019 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Since today is Halloween I thought reposting an old image of the Worcester Clock Tower was appropriate. The first Massachusetts mental state hospital established in 1876. The Gothic architecture was designed by Weston & Rand. The clock tower was the main administration building surrounded by similar looking wings. It was operational til 1991 when a major fire occurred. It remained high on the hill looking over the Worcester area until October 2012 when it was completely dismantled. Many people and organizations fought to preserve the history.
